Heart disease remains the leading cause of death among women, yet its diagnosis and treatment are often overlooked or delayed. Many women experience symptoms that don’t align with traditional indicators of heart disease, leading to misdiagnoses or missed diagnoses entirely. This gap in care has prompted the creation of the Women’s Heart Health Initiative, a mission-driven program designed to improve early detection, research, and care for women with heart conditions—particularly underdiagnosed issues like coronary microvascular disease (CMD).
Why Women’s Heart Health Needs Attention
- Heart disease causes nearly 1 in 5 female deaths in the U.S., yet awareness about its prevalence among women remains low.
- Women are 50% more likely than men to be misdiagnosed during a heart attack, delaying potentially life-saving treatment.
- Conditions such as coronary microvascular disease (CMD), often present without obvious blockages in the larger arteries, are frequently missed by traditional diagnostic tools.
Our Mission
The Women’s Heart Health Initiative seeks to:
- Raise awareness about gender-specific heart disease symptoms and diagnostic disparities.
- Promote innovation in diagnostic tools, ensuring women receive timely and accurate assessments.
- Collaborate with leading healthcare institutions and professionals to develop research-backed strategies for improving women’s heart health outcomes.
